Summary -
This facility tries its best to have an adequate amount of staff per scanner, which is at least 2 for the 5 scanners they have. Most of the time if there can’t be two techs per scanner, it will be one tech scanning with an assistant who will run patients to and from the ER. They will not ask you as a traveler to train in invasives/procedures or cardiac CTAs unless you want to. Their daily outpatient load is usually one patient an hour, maybe one every 30 minutes on a busy day. When you are on the outpatient scanner, your only responsibility is outpatients and inpatients, while if you are in the ER for the day that is your sole responsibility. It’s nice to have the roles split up and assigned so that you can focus on one thing each day. This facility is usually very busy, if you do well in a fast paced environment it’s really not bad. If you are more of a slower pace kind of person, definitely not for you. For a level one trauma center, it’s not the worst in terms of the severity of their traumas. Staff can be hard to warm up to at first, but if you have a decent work ethic and try your best to jump in and help that will go a long way and they will appreciate you quickly. You will receive the typical few days if training before going on shift, but if you are familiar with Siemens equipment and epic, you only have to worry about the bare minimum of the job which is just scanning and its easy to catch on.
