Summary -
I worked at Guam Regional Medical City in 2021-2022, and it was an incredible experience to say the least. Although my assignment took place during waves of COVID — when parts of the downtown area were mostly shut down — Guam still had so much to offer, both professionally and personally.
The island itself is absolutely stunning. The beaches feature clear blue-green water, there are great hiking opportunities, and Guam is well known for its excellent diving sites, making it a dream location for anyone into snorkeling or scuba diving. Another major perk was the easy access to international travel, which added a unique layer to the travel experience. With a strong military presence on the island, there are a few hospitals available, and this facility was a solid place to work.
From a work standpoint, the staff was welcoming and supportive, and the workload was very manageable, even during COVID surges. Equipment included GE portable units and Siemens X-ray rooms at the time, which were reliable and easy to work with. The department felt organized and well run overall.
One thing to be aware of is cost: renting a car was expensive, and since you’re on an island, food and gas costs were higher than the mainland. That said, in my opinion, the experience was absolutely worth it.
I enjoyed this assignment enough to extend multiple times, and it remains one of my favorite travel contracts. I would 100% return to Guam Regional Medical City.
