Summary -
I worked at Adventist Health Twin Cities in 2021, when it was still owned by Tenet Healthcare. Overall, this contract wasn’t my favorite, though there were both positives and challenges worth noting.
I was hired strictly as an X-ray tech on a short 8-week contract, but the department heavily favored CT/X-ray cross-trained technologists. Most of the staff worked both modalities, and while the team did try to introduce me to CT, I didn’t have prior CT experience, which created some workflow challenges. I primarily focused on X-ray, and while the work itself wasn’t terrible, the overall department flow and structure just didn’t feel very efficient.
That said, the staff was genuinely kind and welcoming, and everyone did their best despite short staffing and a very busy workload. Toward the end of my assignment, the hospital brought in a new manager in 2021 who was excellent, and it seemed like positive changes were starting to happen. It’s very possible things improved after I left.
One downside from a technical standpoint was the Philips C-arms, which I personally found difficult and frustrating to work with compared to other systems.
If you are dual-certified in CT and X-ray, this contract would likely be a much better fit, and you probably wouldn’t run into the same issues I did. The department clearly relies on cross-trained technologists. Location-wise, this assignment does have a big upside. Being in central California near San Luis Obispo offers endless outdoor activities, coastal access, and great exploring. That alone would be the main reason I’d consider returning.
In summary: great people and a strong location, but best suited for CT/X-ray techs who are comfortable in both modalities and high-volume environments.
